Practice Pearl - Brock String and Beyond

Robert Nurisio, COVT

Dr. Frederick Brock, a Swiss Optometrist born in 1899, tied his legacy to Developmental Optometry with a simple piece of string. Combined with a few beads to make the Brock String, Dr Brock is reported to have used this simple device to treat many visual disorders with an emphasis on utilizing the neuroplasticity of the visual system to help patients recover stereopsis. Find more on the path of Dr. Brock HERE.

As I shared last week, on October 25, James Smith, COVT will be diving into the Brock String on the maiden voyage of the new Mastering VT Educational Online Workshops. Tune in to hear James discuss the many options when using a Brock String in the Vision Therapy room including understanding when the tool is appropriate, when it might be used for motor fusion and sensory fusion, parallax, motion and even some amazing details about visual phototransduction. James will even be sharing a bit about glow in the dark Brock Strings!

Don’t be embarrassed if you have to Google ‘visual phototransduction’.

I did, too.

In case you missed the exciting news surrounding these workshops, don’t fret! For Vision Therapist Appreciation Week, we will be raffling off a free live session to one of our new monthly vision therapist workshops – a $50 value - to. FIVE  lucky winners. The drawing will happen during a Facebook live event on Thursday Oct 10th at 11 am Eastern. The winners can use their free live session towards ANY of our upcoming workshops!

Hey Ben & James, sorry I missed Vision Therapist week! This darn hurricane has definitely preoccupied us. Definitely would like to see both my therapists participate, and thank you for all you do for our VT community🙏
